It is time to harness the unlimited and powerful energy of the sun. Covering just 1% of the Earth’s surface with solar panels could satisfy our energy demands three times over. Unfortunately, during periods of high renewable output, most vehicles are on the road. What if we could transfer this daytime energy right into vehicles on-the-go?

Night falls, and it’s time to recharge. Electric vehicles are being plugged in, but where does this energy come from? Some of the renewable energy is kept in so called grid storage sites, but it cannot meet the charging demand alone. Instead, 70% of the electricity primarily comes from finite resources such as nuclear fission and fossil fuels.

From battery to battery. Wasted resources and low efficiency. We can do better—with fewer storages. A same day delivery approach is needed.

The Wheel, reinvented
Each wheel is equipped with several receiving elements. At any point of rotation, the vehicle can efficiently (>90%) absorb up to 40 kW per wheel.

Ground Element
As soon as the inductive wheel aligns with a ground element, charging begins. With up to 160 kW of power, even short stops extend range and reduce the need for large onboard batteries.

Dynamic wireless power transfer
Upon completing Laurin’s master’s thesis at ETH Zurich, we extracted the numerical results and used them as a blueprint for our first prototype. An impressive 81% of the energy sent by the ground element was received by the wheel. At that point, we realized the potential of this technology to significantly impact the future of transportation. And the planet.
